I’m searching for the following capabilities. I have an IPTV service and dropping cable TV. I understand that apps are available that can convert the TV guide for recording purposes, similar to capabilities of cable DVR boxes. With the shield, I’m wondering what I will need to accomplish the same set up with the latest technology. I don’t want to use a PC as some folk have recommended. Currently, I use Firestick for streaming but am ready to move up and have a system compatible to the cable package. Thanks
I'm going to be straight forward with you. Recording IPTV is a work in progress. It requires patience and it's definitely not something anyone can guarantee you. For example, 1 of the apps we tested just recently worked excellent for 2 months with constant tweaking and then it stopped working altogether. You need a shield because it has expandable storage. You need an IPTV service that allows you to download their m3u playlist of channels and you need an external hard drive or at least a 256 GB flash drive.
We mainly watch movies, shows, live sports, etc so we do not have much of a need for it. If you want to watch sports replays, we have all the best sports addons and everything is split up according to Sport (Baseball, Football, etc). Its Very easy to use. Our DVR feature in the Freedom Build helps us keep up with our shows and with our 4k freedom build paired up with Real-Debrid ($3 Per Month if You do the 180Day Plan) we can pull up any movie we need including all the classics and lastest 4k movies. I like it bc it doesn't record/ download anything, so no letters from your internet provider. no need for a hard drive and constant file management. No worries about viruses or file corruption and no commercials. It just scans for new shows when you open your build It's also much more reliable than recorded IPTV which often comes up with blanks when the IPTV cuts out or your device goes to sleep. At the end of the day, it all just depends on you though and what you want to watch. What content do you watch the most? Movies, shows, news programs, sports, etc. If you are planning on cutting the cord and you watch a lot of news, I can recommend a premium provider from anywhere from $5- 15 and that covers everything. We also a free app that we include that is excellent for keeping up with your local/national trending news stories too.
